Now HERE'S an oddity - a Scammell truck fitted with the appropriate flanged wheels for running on the Irish broad gauge, this vehicle was discovered in the yard at Mallow, where a collection of odds & ends were gathered, some being worked on for preservation.

"No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die." 007 won't manage to get out of this fix! It's next in line to add to the pile of scrap in the foreground. Inchicore Works, 21st March 1994.
017 (right) and 038 are the nearest of several 001/'A' class locos in the yard at Inchicore Works. 21st March 1994.

Five 'A' class diesels in a row awit scrapping at Inchicore Works, headed by 040. On the adjacent line, 191 has been stripped of engines & buffers, and the pile of bricks underneath the near end indicates a sad lack of wheels. I believe this loco was, for some reason, withdrawn very prematurely. 21st March 1994.

Whilst on holiday in Eire for the first time, I took the precaution of noting all the loco & coach numbers, just in case I got myself interested in Irish railways at a later date. I did, so can now declare that this is former 'A' class Sulzer 048, seen moving some wagons past the turntable at Cork Kent station, in the Summer of 1984.

Now, this is one ODD station! Kilkenny is a terminus, situated a short spur away from the main Mallow-Trallee line. Trains using this route have to run round here, take the train back to the main line, then run round AGAIN to continue to Tralee. As can be seen it's also a strange platform arrangement! 083 does the honours en route to Tralee. 19th March 1994.

125 would appear to be hollow, judging by this shot, taken at Inchicore Works on 21st March 1994. The loco had been dumped here for over three years, and still carried the old CIE livery.
